Let’s be real: this year has been a lot. Between new jobs, new homes, new babies, and the fact that my friend group is now scattered across cities, we’re not exactly doing a blowout holiday bash. But somehow, we found a Saturday that works for everyone! And as fate would have it, there’s a local Christmas market on that very day. It’s like the holiday gods are smiling on us.
We’ve never been to this market, so we’re kicking off the day there. Nothing says bonding like wandering around together in chilly weather, sipping mulled wine, and picking out fun little holiday treasures. Once we’re fully “fa-la-la” festive, we’re heading back to my friend’s new condo for a cozy night in, complete with a Secret Santa exchange and plenty of cheer.
Secret Santa
Yes, we’re doing Secret Santa—and I live for this. I thrive on finding the perfect gift, not just some random thing that’ll end up collecting dust. It’s a delicate balance, though, isn’t it? Finding something fun, thoughtful, and under budget. This year, we’ve capped it at $50, which I think is just the right amount to get creative without going overboard.
I’ve got a little trick up my sleeve, and I’m pretty sure I nailed it with a skincare bundle that’s simple yet luxurious. Here’s what I’m giving:
- Sulwhasoo Face Cleanser – a mini that’s trending for good reason
- Caudalie Grape Water Moisturizing Face Mist – a lovely touch of luxury for winter skin
- Clean Skin Club Clean Towels – because who doesn’t love a little pampering?
- Face Wash Wristbands – if you haven’t tried these, they’re genius for keeping water from running down your arms!
The Festive Potluck
We decided to keep things easy on everyone, so each of us is bringing a festive app. Think of it as a holiday potluck where everyone contributes, and the hosting responsibilities don’t all fall on one person. It’s a great way to make things cozy without one person breaking their back to prep. And the decor doesn’t have to be over the top. Adding a decorative table runner, festive napkins and plates can be enough to create the festive vibe!
I made Roasted sweet potato rounds with whipped feta and pomegranates. We also had a dill pickle dip with pitas and pretzel crackers, Phyllo wrapped brie with brown sugar walnuts, baked peaches with a ricotta topping, and a classic spinach dip with pumpernickel bread. Everything was so yummy and we were having such a good time, we barely took any photos.
Another option that I love? Festive cocktails! Whether you’re ordering in, going out, or just snacking at home, a holiday-themed drink really adds to the vibe.
Simple, Festive Fun
So that’s the plan: holiday market in the afternoon, apps and Secret Santa in the evening, holiday music, and maybe just a bit of “extra festive” spirit (if you know what I mean 😉). Sometimes it’s not about having an over-the-top party but just finding those simple moments to laugh, relax, and make the season a little brighter with the people you love.
Cheers!
